The Bellevue region isn’t exactly prone to hail, but it isn’t completely immune to it either. Hailstorms can occur even in the summer. Hail as big as golf balls can cause immense property damage. The good news, though, is that your insurance may cover the damage. We explain how to file a hail claim.
Does Insurance Cover Hail Damage?
Only your insurance provider can answer this question. Most car owners are apprehensive about filing a hail claim out of fear their premiums will skyrocket. However, most comprehensive coverage plans cover hail damage since the damage is classified as an “act of God.” This means unavoidable damage due to events outside human control. In any case, verify with your insurance agency instead of taking our word for it.
Filing a Hail Claim: The Step-by-Step Process
- Document the damage. Take photos and have your information on hand when calling your insurance provider. This includes your driver’s license, license plate number, date, and time of hail damage.
- An agent will review your case. If the case goes forward, you will bring your car to a collision center for an assessment of damage. Upon inspection, the agent will get back to you with an estimate and deductible amount for repairs.
- The auto body shop will proceed with the repair work. This will typically involve a paintless dent repair and/or auto paint restoration depending on the extent of damage.
The collision center and your insurance agency may also help you acquire a rental car in the interim.
Don’t Let Hail Blemish Your Car
Hail isn’t a major problem in the Bellevue area. Nevertheless, weather patterns can throw curveballs. If hail does pelt your vehicle, bring it to Doug’s Auto Collision Center for a check-up. Filing a hail claim is not that different than filing any other damage claim.
